About Matthew Warren

Based in northeast Texas, Matthew Warren is a music educator, conductor, and trumpet player. He is currently the Director of Orchestras at J.P. Elder Middle School in Fort Worth ISD, and performs with the New Texas Symphony Orchestra as associate principal trumpet. He previously served as the assistant conductor of the SFA Symphony Orchestra for the 2020-2021 concert season. Along with conducting the SFASO, he has conducted the SFA Wind Ensemble, LSU Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, the Chicago Conducting Workshop ensemble, and student ensembles in Texas, along with a performance of Handel’s “Messiah” at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Carthage, TX. Conductors and teachers he has studied under include Dr. Gregory Grabowski, Donald Schleicher, Jeffery Grogan, Dr. Clif Evans, Scott Terrell, Dr. Kevin Sedatole, Dr. Damon Talley, Dr. Tamey Anglley, and Dr. Chris Kaatz.

Before teaching in Fort Worth ISD, Matthew taught as a music specialist in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, and was a private teacher in Rockwall, Garland, Mesquite, Nacogdoches, and Diboll school districts, teaching trumpet with sixth through twelfth grade students, many advancing in TMEA region and solo and ensemble contests. Matthew believes that music is an essential part within the education of our younger generations, and he wishes to share it with as many as possible through his love of music and music education.

As a trumpet player, Matthew has performed with many ensembles, currently performing with the New Texas Symphony Orchestra. He has also served as the principal trumpet of the Carrollton Wind Symphony, principal of the SFA Symphony Orchestra and the SFA Wind Ensemble, and many other ensembles including the Empyrean Trumpet Ensemble, Galveston Symphony Orchestra, the Roarin’ Buzzsaws Pep Band, the Swinging Aces Jazz Band, and the Starlight Swing Orchestra. He has also competed at the 2018 and 2019 National Trumpet Competitions in the small ensemble division. His teachers include Dr. Jake Walburn, James Austin, and Sparky Koerner.

Outside of music, Matthew enjoys cooking, outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with his amazing fiancé Alyssa and his three cats Milo, Mia, and Percy.

Matthew holds a Bachelors of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Texas Teaching Certification, and is working towards his Masters in Instrumental Conducting. He is also a member of TMEA, TODA, and Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity.
